Cleanup efforts continued over the weekend at the Port of Los Angeles after the Sept 22 fire at the Pasha breakbulk terminal. The cleanup is expected to take weeks:

“It will be weeks before we get the bulk of this wood debris out of the harbor,”

said Mike Christensen, deputy executive director of development for the Port of Los Angeles.

Container terminals at both ports have been operating normally since workers returned to their jobs for the evening shift on Tuesday and the day shift on Wednesday. The incident did not significantly impact peak-season cargo-handling activities in the port complex. They have been able to dock ships at nearby berths that were not affected by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
