Advice for New Importers

May 9, 2013 by Karen Edwards Leave a Comment

DHS-logo (2)If you are considering becoming an importer, the first thing you should do is  familiarize yourself with all of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP ) policies and procedures before actually importing your goods.

Will you need a license to import?

CBP does not require an importer to have a license or permit, but other agencies
may require a permit, license, or other certification, depending on the commodity that is being imported. CBP acts in an administrative capacity for  these other agencies, and you may wish to contact them directly for more information.

Plan to be aware of any entry requirements specific to the particular commodity you are
intending to import,  including those of other federal agencies.
