Iberia Airline Workers Strike in Madrid.\"iberia\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Starting Monday February 18th, 2013 in Madrid, Spain many workers for Iberia Airlines, which is owned by The International Airlines Group, began a planned week long strike to fight for the jobs that Iberia plans to cut this year. The International Airlines Group has been looking toward these job cuts since November 2012 when Iberia claimed to be losing up to 2 million euro per day.<\/p>\n

Striking ground workers and flight attendants for Iberia, the money-losing Spanish airline, clashed with riot police officers at Madrid-Barajas Airport on Monday, the first day of work stoppages to protest a plan to eliminate more than 3,800 jobs.<\/p>\n

Despite a police blockade, several hundred protesters managed to enter Terminal 4 \u2014 Iberia\u2019s main operating hub at the airport \u2014 creating additional chaos and frustration there for many passengers who had already been forced to wait for delayed flights.<\/p>\n

As of now most operations in and out of Madrid have been suspended which directly effects import\/export from the US, as this is the major hub to fly in and out of for Iberia. If your freight is stuck in the US or Spain you can wait until the strike is over at the end of this week and look for your freight to arrive a week or more later than initially planned, or you can try to pull your freight from Iberia and send another way. If your freight is in Madrid now you will want to contact your representative there to know your options. There are planned strikes for Iberia employee’s, which will now include pilots, set for March 4-8 and March 8-12 in Madrid.<\/p>\n
