S. Customs and Border Protection] announced in\u00a0posting\u00a0<span class=\"article_title\">CSMS #14-000598 to clarify the terms:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"article_title\">Valid NAFTA Certificate of Origin<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Lists the good in question<\/li>\n<li>Covers the period in question<\/li>\n<li>Includes the exporter\u2019s or his agent\u2019s signature in block 11a \u201cAuthorized Signature\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Was in the importer\u2019s possession at the time of the claim, as demonstrated by 1) a block 11e<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"article_title\">Invalid NAFTA Certificate of Origin<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>if it does not meet the above mentioned\u00a0requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"article_title\">Defective NAFTA Certificate of Origin<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>If meeting the\u00a0\u201cValid NAFTA Certificate of Origin,\u201d noted above, but contains other errors or omissions.\n<ul>\n<li>These include, but are not limited to the following:\n<ul>\n<li>illegibility<\/li>\n<li>misclassification<\/li>\n<li>incorrect or missing preference criteria<\/li>\n<li>signature by an individual who cannot legally bind the company<\/li>\n<li>typed or stamped signature<\/li>\n<li>3rd-country goods (in addition to NAFTA goods)<\/li>\n<li>Net Cost field error<\/li>\n<li>single entry Certificate without an invoice or other unique reference numbers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"article_title\">Reminder from CBP: Importers\u00a0preference will be denied when possession of a valid NAFTA Certificate of Origin at the time of the claim cannot be substantiated.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"article_title\">To read the entire posting: <\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/apps.cbp.gov\/csms\/viewmssg.asp?Recid=20379&amp;page=&amp;srch_argv=14-000598&amp;srchtype=all&amp;btype=&amp;sortby=&amp;sby=\"><span class=\"article_title\">CSMS #14-000598<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CBP: Valid vs. Invalid vs. Defective NAFTA Certificate of Origin This week, the CBP [U.
