West Coast Ports: Near Gridlock Despite Mediation

January 13, 2015 by Karen Edwards Leave a Comment

port congestions - CONGESTIONWest Coast Ports: Near Gridlock Despite Mediation

It is being called War of Words that is escalating the dispute between the PMA and ILWU. The PMA is accusing the union of slowdowns and withholding skilled labor that is a causing almost ‘complete grid lock’. The ILWU blasted back saying that the PMA conceded that problems were related to operational issues.

It seems that the ILWU and the PMA are no longer agreeing not to discuss details of the actual negotiations. From JOC:

That by itself takes the negotiations to a new low.

Usually with the help of a federal mediator, these types of cases have assisted the parties to reach a compromise. So far, it looks as though mediation has made the situation worse.

Superior Freight Services, Inc. will continue to provide updates on the Wes Coast Port negotiations as well as other logistic news.
