LA-Long Beach – Chassis Pool Deal
From JOC:
Three major chassis providers finalized an agreement that should guarantee equipment availability and eliminate the cost of shuttling the chassis’ among 11 of the 13 container terminals.
From Port of Long Beach News:
Three companies that own the vast majority of chassis serving the San Pedro Bay ports are on track to activate a “gray chassis fleet” of truck-trailers on March 1, a move that should improve the flow of goods through the nation’s busiest harbor complex.
The three companies are:
- Direct ChassisLink Inc. (DCLI)
- Flexi-Van Leasing Inc.
- TRAC Intermodal
This should clear the way by giving terminal operators and trucking companies at the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles much more flexibility in obtaining chassis [the wheeled trailers used by trucks to haul cargo containers].
NOTE: Reaching an agreement on the ILWU chassis jurisdiction delayed the contact negotiations in February and is considered a key provision in the tentative contract.
