{"id":3078,"date":"2014-08-01T10:55:06","date_gmt":"2014-08-01T15:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/?p=3078"},"modified":"2014-08-01T10:55:06","modified_gmt":"2014-08-01T15:55:06","slug":"lcl-cargo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/2014\/08\/01\/lcl-cargo\/","title":{"rendered":"What is LCL cargo?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\"><a href=\"http:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/LCL-Less-than-container-load-Cargo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3081\" src=\"http:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/LCL-Less-than-container-load-Cargo-300x244.jpg\" alt=\"LCL -  Less-than-container-load-Cargo\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/LCL-Less-than-container-load-Cargo-300x244.jpg 300w, https:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/LCL-Less-than-container-load-Cargo.jpg 344w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>What is LCL cargo?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>LCL\u00a0stands for Less [Than] Container Load.\u00a0 When you are moving a shipment LCL, this means you are sharing space in a full container with other shippers and therefore sharing the costs as well.<\/p>\n<p>Many freight forwarders\/NVOCC\u2019s offer these services as a lower cost freight option when you have smaller shipments or not enough cargo to fill an entire container.\u00a0 The forwarder\/NVOCC will consolidate your cargo with other customers who have cargo moving to\/from the same region.<\/p>\n<p>Pros and Cons of moving you shipment LCL:<\/p>\n<p><strong>PROS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Greatly reduced shipment costs vs FCL or airfreight.<\/li>\n<li>Can increase supply chain efficiency by shipping smaller shipments more frequently vs. waiting for enough product to accumulate to ship via FCL.<\/li>\n<li>Improve\u00a0inventory turns receiving consistent smaller volume shipments vs. one large volume shipment that will sit in inventory longer.\u00a0 This is commonly referred to as a \u201cFloating Inventory\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Consistent transit schedules \u2013 LCL schedules typically cut the same day every week &amp; have the same transit time to destination every week.\u00a0 Consolidated cargo also moves at a higher rate per container than FCL single commodity business therefore giving it preferential treatment with the steamship lines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Longer transit vs FCL shipping \u2013 LCL transit is typically 5-10 days longer than FCL as it will have to transit consolidation centers at origin and destination which adds additional days at origin and destination<\/li>\n<li>Increased product handling \u2013 effective packaging for international sea transportation is critical.\u00a0 Sturdy square boxes are ideal.\u00a0 Ensure proper handling labels and instructions are provided to your forwarder\/NVOCC.\u00a0 Remember your cargo will be mixed and stacked with other shipments.<\/li>\n<li>Potential customs delays \u2013 since you are loading your shipment(s) with other shippers, if 1 shipment has a customs hold, the whole container is therefore on customs hold and delayed until it is resolved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Typically the wildcard in LCL shipping is the terminal handling fees and CFS (Consolidated Freight Station) fees that may apply.\u00a0 You want to be sure these costs are included in your quote prior to shipping as they can greatly change your final cost by hundreds of dollars sometimes.<\/p>\n<p>The key to successful LCL shipping is communication with your forwarder\/NVOCC and choosing a forwarder that can fix problems efficiently and effectively.\u00a0\u00a0 It is certainly a more complicated process than FCL moves with several additional parties being involved.\u00a0 With additional parties come additional costs.\u00a0 You want to be sure you are providing all of the shipment details, asking the right questions and getting complete quotes and an \u201capples to apples\u201d comparison from your forwarder\/NVOCC to ensure no surprises when you receive your invoice.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me at any time and I will be happy to assist you.\u00a0 across@supfrt.com or 952-854-5053.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is LCL cargo?
