LA-Long Beach looking beyond peak season to greater challenges ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n

All\u00a0seem to be confident that LA-Long Beach will be able to handle the spike in container volume this peak season. However, there are longer-term challenges: mega\u00a0ships, carrier alliances, truck turn times, and rail performances.<\/p>\n

West Coast ports have lost 5% market share\u00a0in the first half of this year while the East Coast gained 3% due to cargo diversions.<\/p>\n

Machinists union challenges ILWU work in Long Beach<\/strong><\/p>\n

The union representing some machinists is challenging the Long Beach Harbor Commission over a requirement that maintenance and repair work associated with the port’s proposed peak-season chassis pool be performed by the ILWU mechanics.<\/p>\n

West Coast chassis lessor refuses to pay for ILWU inspections<\/strong><\/p>\n

TRAC Intermodal, one of the\u00a0chassis-leasing companies on the West Coast, refused to pay for mandatory roadability inspections by the union.<\/p>\n

In a letter, TRAC stated the invoices received for these safety inspections “are inappropriate and not compliant with the law.”<\/p>\n
