{"id":4154,"date":"2015-12-17T12:45:33","date_gmt":"2015-12-17T18:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/?p=4154"},"modified":"2015-12-17T12:45:33","modified_gmt":"2015-12-17T18:45:33","slug":"panama-canal-expansion-to-be-complete-in-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/2015\/12\/17\/panama-canal-expansion-to-be-complete-in-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Panama Canal Expansion To Be Completed in 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/panama-flag.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4155\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4155\" src=\"http:\/\/supfrt.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/panama-flag.jpg\" alt=\"panama flag\" width=\"243\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>Panama Canal Expansion To Be Completed in 2016<\/p>\n<p>The <b>Panama Canal expansion project<\/b>, also called the &#8216;Third Set of Locks Project&#8217;, is intended to double the capacity of the Panama Canal\u00a0by 2016 by creating a new lane of traffic doubling the waterway capacity and allowing more and larger ships, the\u00a0size, which are about one and a half times the current maximum width and length (known as <a title=\"Panamax\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Panamax\">Panamax<\/a>) and can carry over twice as much cargo from 5,000 TEUs to 13,000 TEUs.<\/p>\n<p>The project is planned to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build two new sets of\u00a0 locks, one each on the Atlantic and Pacific sides, and excavate new channels to the new locks.
