Lambert-St. Louis (STL) International Airport Makes Push For More Air Cargo

Lambert-St. Louis (STL) International Airport Makes Push For More Air Cargo.STL airport

In a move that looks to strengthen not only the Lambert-St Louis (STL) International Airport but also the freight forwarder community in the Midwest; the state senators in Missouri have come together to support a bill that will give incentives to the freight forwarders in the area.

State senators endorsed legislation creating new tax incentives for air cargo. Freight forwarders would receive a credit of 40 cents per kilogram for cargo placed on outbound flights from a Missouri airport…

…That airport is Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, the largest airport in Missouri. It used to be a hub for Trans World Airlines. In its heyday in 2000, the airport processed almost 300 million pounds of cargo, says David Lancaster, director of cargo development at the airport.

While this would be a great move for the any logistics provider or their customers, the airlines would still need to be convinced this will create the demand for direct international flights from STL Airport.  Currently there is no international flights directly from STL, and based on the current economy they would need to work hard to get airlines to see the benefit for them. So for now we will keep our fingers crossed and jump at the opportunity if it presents itself.
