Determining your Port of Export Code

April 12, 2013 by Karen Edwards Leave a Comment

aeslogo[1]The Port of Export code is a four-digit code that identifies specific ports where your shipment is leaving the country per the CBP list. This is a required field in the Automated Export System (AES). If you use the wrong code, it can be considered a Fatal Error that can involve penalties &  fines. Entering it correctly can reduce shipment delays by the CBP U.S. Customs and Border Protection .

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Need to know where your shipment is leaving the country
  • Need to know the mode of transport
  • Need to communicate with your carrier
