‘Uptick’ Continues in Cargo Traffic

September 4, 2013 by Karen Edwards Leave a Comment

iata_0_66162Global freight traffic was up 1.2% in July year-on-year, “showing a continuation of the modest improvement trend experienced in June” , said the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in its latest report.

July was slightly better than the 0.9% year-on-year increase recorded in June, as growth in Europe and the Middle East offset weakness in Asia.

As a result of the July performance, air freight volumes are at their highest level since mid-2011.

There was a capacity increase of  3.4% versus July 2012, pushing the load factor down to 43.3%. However, load factors have stabilized compared to earlier in 2013.

IATA’s noted that Asia-Pacific carriers’ freight traffic was down 1.4% on July 2012 with capacity climbing 2.6% while European carriers experienced a 1.5% increase in FTKs in July, while capacity climbed 3.5%.
