The government shutdown has created some unknown variables in the movement of international trade. We at Superior Freight Services are trying to obtain a full understanding of what the impact of the shutdown is on international trade.
Currently, the following Government Agencies have been impacted by the shutdown according various sources:
- Commerce Department
- Bureau of Census
- ITA – Most services and activities provided by the International Trade Administration
- FAA – Furloughs Safety Inspectors
- USITC – Harmonized Tariff System, website, etc.
- Export Import Bank of the United States
- FTC – Federal Trade Commission
- USTDA – US Trade and Development Agency
- Department of Homeland Security – E-Verify shutdown
- Federal Maritime Commission – All Commission activities will be completely shut down by 12:00 p.m. ET Tuesday.
The following will continue operation during the shutdown.
- Export Enforcement

Currently our Freight is coming in and out without incident, and we do not foresee any issues for the movement of the freight. There may be some issues for importers and exporters in coming weeks if the paperwork gets backlogged at these agencies.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
