In true American spirit, we’ve compiled a list of some interesting statistics related to our Nation’s favorite holiday and where the things we love about this holiday actually come from:
* There were an estimated 2.5 million people living in our newly formed Union in 1776. Today, the USA has a population of nearly 318.4 million!!
* The US imported $213.8 million worth of fireworks from in 2013 ($203.6 million from China alone).
* The US exported only $10.2 million worth of fireworks in the same year, 2013.
* The US imported about $4.0 million of American flags in 2013. Most of these also came from China.
* The US exported $781,222 of U.S. flags in 2013. The Dominican Republic was the largest importing country of these goods at $160,000.
* Americans will consume about 150 million hot dogs over the July 4th celebrations.
* One out of every 4 pork hot dogs originates in Iowa. Minnesota and North Carolina are also major pork producing states.
* One sixth of all beef production comes from Texas. Nebraska and Kansas are also major beef producing states.
* 75% of all lettuce head production comes from California while 71% of all fresh tomatoes come from California or Florida.
* Approximately half of the nation’s potatoes are produced in Idaho or Washington.
* 36% of the nation’s dry, edible beans are produced in North Dakota (the most in any state).
