New FTR's Enforcement Begins Tomorrow October 3, 2014
Here’s part of what’s happening tomorrow on October 3:
- Customs and Border Protection may begin issuing penalties for non-compliance
- AES Direct will begin issuing fatal errors related to the new data elements

On April 5, 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau, in concurrence with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), implemented an 180 day informed compliance period regarding the enforcement of the Final Rule published on March 14, 2013 which revised Title 15, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 30, Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR).
A 180 day informed compliance period [grace period] was established to educate the trade community on the new reporting requirements. During this time, no penalties were issued for failure to comply with the new requirements. Today, October 2, 2014, is the last day of the informed compliance period.
