From the Office of Anti-Boycott Compliance with the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS)  – proceedings were initiated (six violations) and subsequently a settlement agreement was reached with Morex, Inc. of North Carolina.

  • Four Violations  –  In connection with exports to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates between 2009 and 2011, the company furnished information concerning another person’s business relationships with another person known or believed to be restricted from having any business relationship with or in a boycotting country.
  • Two Violations – Between 2008 and 2010 in connection with exports to Pakistan, the company received a request to take an action that would have the effect of furthering or supporting a restrictive trade practice or unsanctioned foreign boycott and failed to report those requests.

The settlement agreement includes an assessed civil penalty of $25,200 civil penalty. BIS states that timely payment of the penalty will be a condition to the granting, restoration or continuing validity of any export license, permission or privilege granted or to be granted to the company. If the company fails to pay the penalty in a timely manner BIS may deny all of its export privileges for one year.
