Maralit’s Convicted of AECA & Denied Export Privileges
Both Rex Gene Maralit and Wilfredo Maralit were convicted separately in New York of violating the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) by knowingly and willfully exporting to the Philippines various defense articles – firearms, fiream accessories and components, without first obtaining the required license or written approval from the State Department.
Each were sentenced to 36 months of imprisonment, three years supervised release and a fine of $100.
As a result, The EAR (Export Administration Regulations) provides that they may deny export privileges of any person who has been convicted of a violation of the EAA (Export Administration Act), EAR, or other regulation (see attachment for details). Based on the facts, both Maralit’s are denied export privileges for a period of 10 years from dates of their conviction. Also, all licenses issued are revoked in which the Maralit’s has an interest at the time of conviction.
