Though Los Angeles-Long Beach terminal operators are moving vessels into and out of the ports a bit faster [3-4 days versus 5-6 days last week], there is still congestion since trans-Pacific liner services run weekly. As a result, 20 more vessels will arrive and will be added to 48 container ships already in port. They anticipate that the vessel backlog with slowly improve.

Extending Cap on dockage fees – From JOC:
Recognizing the impact that port congestion is having on the ability of marine terminals to work container ships, the Long Beach Harbor Commission has extended a cap it had placed on dockage gees charged to shipping lines until June 30.

Southern California ILWU leader President Bobby Olvera said “We want ships to come here.” He said that his members are committed to clearing out the backlog and wants to see the reputation of the ports restored. He also said:
“You have my commitment. We will do everything we can to the cans out the gate.”
