West Coast Ports Newsport UPDATE - wc

ILWU Caucus meets this week

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union’s caucus will meet this week in San Francisco, starting on Monday, to review the tentative agreement reached with the Pacific Maritime Association last month. If the Coast Longshore Committee recommends ratification, the tentative contract will be mailed to all ILWU members and they will vote on whether to approve the pact.

However, the Transport Workers Solidarity Committee, a group that has openly criticized ILWU leadership and the proposed deal, will also hold a forum. If the caucus vote against approval, the ILWU and PMA must return to the bargaining table. If not approved, starting renegotiations would cause fears among cargo interests and likely result in more cargo diversions from the West Coast Ports.
