There are just about 35 million Americans that claim to be Irish! That is over seven times the entire population of Ireland!
All of those 35 million, plus the millions of non-Irish Americans will celebrate full force today – in addition to celebrations over the weekend. All in honor of Ireland’s patron saint.
Between green beer, parades, and other celebrations, St. Patrick’s Day spending reaches an astounding $4.14 billion! It’s a big job for logistics, working behind the scenes, managing order fulfillment services
On St. Patrick’s Day, the amount of Guinness sales can jump from five million pints per day to an incredible 13 million! The annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City, which has taken place every year since 1762, can have 150 bands, up to 250,000 marchers, and two million spectators.
In addition, for over 50 years, the city of Chicago has dyed the Chicago River green as part of their annual celebration! Can you guess how many pounds of green dye it takes to turn the Chicago River green? It takes 40 lbs. of dye to keep the river flowing green for just one day.
St. Patrick’s Day is by no means a minor holiday. Across the country, 39% percent of Americans say they celebrate. Many companies have taken advantage of that spending, and adjusted their order fulfillment services to keep supply on pace with demand.
